Weighting on God’s Approach to Weight Loss
‘Weighting on God’ is a faith-based approach to having a healthy lifestyle and achieving sustainable weight loss. The course takes biblical principles, which are foundational to our Christian walk, and then applies them to our whole relationship with food and eating. Before we can see outward changes, we need to be inwardly transformed: our thoughts need to be renewed, our emotional wounds healed, and ourwills fully submitted to the Lord.
This is made gloriously possible through the power of the Holy Spirit, who works within us both to will (influencing our desires) and to do (enabling us to make godly choices) of His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)
Here is how it works…
1. It isn’t fundamentally about the weight.
For Christians, weight loss should be a means to an end, not an end in itself. Our ultimate aim is to fulfil the Biblical injunction: ‘Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.’ (1 Corinthians 10:31) We do not glorify God simply by being slim! This isn’t about body image, it’s about ‘being fit for the Master’s use both literally and figuratively.

We do not ‘own’ our bodies; we are stewards. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) It is therefore our responsibility to look after that which God has entrusted us with. Optimum health for optimum usefulness!

There are some issues concerning our health and physical fitness, over which we have little or no control. But the way in which we relate to food and eating and the daily food choices we make have an enormous impact on our health. And the healthier we are, the more energy we have to serve the Lord effectively.
2. It isn’t a diet, and it isn’t about performance
‘Not of works lest any man should boast.’ (Ephesians 2:9) We don’t have to strive to comply with dietary rules and regulations, which leave us feeling frustrated and ashamed when we fail to measure up. We don’t even need to use bathroom scales if we don’t want to! Our ultimate aim is to please the Father, which we do best when, acknowledging our own helplessness, we receive His grace and empowerment.
3. Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding
Knowledge provides us with the facts, understanding allows us to process those facts, and wisdom shows us how best to apply them. We need all three! In Weighting on God, we don’t tell people what, when or how to eat, but we do raise awareness of how our bodies function in relation to food and eating, and we teach you how to make choices that satisfy both physically and emotionally.
4. Discipleship
Weighting on God is as much about Christian discipleship as it is about losing weight. The same biblical principles which we apply to Christian growth in general can be applied specifically to our relationship with food.

Through Weighting on God (and especially the full course), you will learn how to acquire a Spirit controlled appetite… knowing your spiritual identity, renewing your thoughts, overcoming bondage to emotional eating, discerning God’s voice, walking by faith, intimacy with God, submission to the work of the Cross, and so much more.

For those who have been following Christ for many years, you will already be familiar with these Christian disciplines and will rejoice to find here a way that you can apply them effectively to the whole area of how you relate to food. For others, who may be new to the Christian faith, this course will serve as an introduction to so many rich doctrines which you can continue to apply in every area of your life.
