Frequently Asked Questions

Is Weighting on God just another diet?

Weighting on God is not a diet. There is no food deprivation, no calorie counting or food weighing, and you do not even need to weigh yourself if you don’t want to! It involves no surgery; there are no special food supplements to buy, no meal plans and no special equipment! Where weight reduction is required, there needs to be an excess of calorie expenditure over calorie consumption. This is achieved by learning to listen to your body in a natural, intuitive way and overcoming personal issues, which encourage overeating, with God’s help.

Is Weighting on God scientific as well as biblical?

Yes. Although Weighting on God is faith-based in its delivery, it is backed up by up-to-date information and statistical data on nutrition science, endocrinology (hormonal influences), and behavioural psychology.

Is the course safe for anyone to do?

Before embarking on any weight loss program, it is always best toconsult a medical practitioner. Whilst some medical and genetic considerations make it more challenging to maintain weight loss, this is not insurmountable. Many have found that through this course, they have managed not only to lose weight but even reverse chronic illnesses such as Type 2 diabetes.

I’m on medication. Will this affect my ability to do the course?

Those who are prescribed steroids, anti-depressants or the contraceptive pill often find that they gain weight. This is an added challenge, but there is no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy a significant measure of success as you eliminate all the psychological and emotional reasons for inappropriate eating. See if your doctor can put you on another medication which will not affect your weight so much.

Would the course help those with eating disorders such as bulimia or anorexia nervosa?

Whilst Weighting on God has not been specifically written to tackle these dietary extremes, it has been used successfully by some counsellors to assist clients in developing healthier habits once they have achieved a level of readiness to follow such advice. The emotional roots of both excessive eating and self-imposed starvation are often the same, albeit with a different outcome

Is the course suitable for non-Christians?

The ‘Weighting on God’ course is unashamedly Christian in content. But  it is also substantially sound regarding nutritional science, food psychology and health issues associated with obesity. The core principles of listening to one’s hunger and satisfaction signals to determine when and how much to eat (known by some as either Awareness Eating or Intuitive Eating) are advocated by many health professionals, both Christian and secular.

The book gives Biblical credence to this approach and also provides valuable tools to help people overcome emotional eating within a Christian framework. When the course is conducted within the framework of a church group, it is presented in a non-threatening way, and there is no pressure for participants to conform to a Christian philosophy or to receive prayer ministry.

According to reports, non-Christians, provided they retain an open mind, have been comfortable with the Christian approach and course participants have often been brought to deeper commitment through the course. Sue’s 3-minute Songs of Praise video is a useful way of introducing people to the programme, which can then be followed up with either the book or a church course.

How long will it take for me to lose weight?

Weighting on God is committed to lifestyle change and is not a quick fix. Weight loss will depend on several factors, especially the degree to which a ‘diet mentality’ has shaped your behaviour, the amount of emotional baggage you are carrying, and your openness to receiving and responding to God’s counsel.
The course will most certainly help you lose weight. But more than this, it will be a means of breaking free from the curse of dieting and adopting a healthy lifestyle so that you can begin to enjoy food freely, without guilt, in a responsible way.

Does the Weighting on God course really bring sustainable weight
loss?

Once you have learned to modify your food intake to correspond with your own body’s physiological needs, there is no reason why you should not be able to maintain a healthy weight as a sustainable lifestyle. The temptation to overeat is always with us to some degree, but you will be given powerful practical and spiritual tools to maximize your success.
Just like any other aspect of our Christian walk, achievement is dependent on our ongoing relationship with the Lord. If we remain in fellowship with God, the Holy Spirit will be our constant companion, helping us to maintain a right relationship with food and eating.

Do I need to exercise?
For optimum health, exercise is always recommended. When it is carried out at a moderate to fast pace, it does assist in fat reduction. The main health benefits, however, are improved cardiovascular performance, lower blood pressure, greater mobility, strength, endurance and a sense of well-being.
The eBook course includes basic information regarding exercise, but even if you are medically unable to exercise effectively, the course will still be of considerable benefit.

Does Weighting on God provide practical ways of overcoming
problems in relation to food and eating?

Yes. All units, whilst supported by inspiring and challenging Bible teaching, are applied in practical, common-sense ways.
